Participation guide

Welcome to Defi Wind, the world’s most emblematic long-distance water sport event, organized as a mass start, where the energy of the wind meets the passion of the riders.

Every year, Defi Wind brings together thousands of participants, both amateurs and experienced competitors, from the four corners of the globe to share a unique collective experience.

More than just a competition, Defi Wind is an extraordinary human and sporting adventure, driven by the spirit of community and conviviality that has been at the heart of the event’s DNA for over 20 years.

SPORTS LICENSE AND INSURANCE

Each participant must be covered for the practice of the discipline concerned in competition, i.e. :

  • by a valid and compliant annual sports license,
  • or, failing that, by the temporary insurance offered by the organization at the time of registration.

The annual sports licenses accepted are those explicitly covering the practice of the discipline concerned (Windsurf, Wingfoil or Kitesurf) in competition.

  • The organization reserves the right to refuse any license that does not meet these criteria.

If you do not have a valid annual sports license, you must take out the temporary insurance offered by the organization, which cannot be replaced by any other individual cover.

Medical certificate

A medical certificate confirming fitness for competitive sailing is required.

The medical certificate must :

  • Indicate the absence of any medical contraindication to the practice of the discipline concerned in competition,
  • Be less than 12 months old on the last day of the event,
  • Be signed and stamped.

parental consent

The minimum age is 13 on the first day of competition for Defi Wing and Wind, and 14 for Defi Kite.

Minors may participate subject to :

  • Provide parental consent,
  • Be accompanied by their legal guardian or a responsible adult for the duration of the event.

BEFORE REGISTERING

Who can benefit from the Défi Wind, Défi Wing and Défi Kite events?
> Défi events are open to all enthusiasts, whether amateurs or experienced competitors, wishing to take part in a long-distance event organized in the form of a mass start, in a spirit that is both sporting, collective and convivial.


Is there a minimum level to participate?
> Yes. Participants must be self-sufficient in their craft, able to sail long distances in an open environment and manage their equipment in complete safety. This is not an event for beginners.

How do I register?
> Registrations can only be made online on the official website www.defiwind.fr , from the announced opening date.


Is the number of places limited?
> Yes, each event has a quota of participants. Once this quota has been reached, registration is closed.

Is my registration definitive?
> Registration becomes definitive only after validation of a complete file: information filled in, compulsory documents sent and participation fees paid.

What is the minimum age for participation?
> The minimum age for the Defi Wing and Wind is 13, and 14 for the Defi Kite.


Can minors take part?
> Yes, subject to:
– providing parental authorization,
– being accompanied by their legal guardian or a responsible adult for the duration of the event.

Do I need an annual sports license?
> No. Each participant must be covered for the practice of the discipline concerned in competition, i.e. :

  • by a valid and compliant annual sports license,
  • or, failing that, by the temporary insurance offered by the organization at the time of registration.

Can I be reimbursed in the event of non-participation or cancellation?
> No.
In the event of non-participation and/or cancellation by the participant, registration fees are not refunded, whatever the reason.

Is the equipment free?
> Yes, the equipment is free, in compliance with the rules specific to each discipline.


What equipment is required?

  • neoprene wetsuit (minimum 3 mm shorty),
  • wear the number provided by the organization,

By discipline :

  • helmet and impact vest when required.

Prohibited or compulsory equipment is specified in the Participation Guide for each discipline.

What is the race format?
> This is a long-distance event, organized as a mass start.


Is there a minimum wind speed for running?
> Yes. A minimum average wind speed is required to launch an official round. This threshold depends on the discipline and is specified in the Participation Guide.


Is there a time limit?
> There is no official time limit. However, for safety reasons, race management may decide to stop the last competitors.

Are there categories and classifications?
> Yes. Scratch and category rankings are established according to discipline.


Can I file a claim?
> No. The jury is sovereign and ensures that the spirit of the Défi events is respected. No complaints will be accepted.

Is it compulsory to be present at the number collection?
> Yes. Participants must be present when they receive their race numbers. Identification is required.
